LEGAPHYTON

LEGAPHYTON is a pelleted dietetic complementary feed formulated to support the liver function in case of liver disorders in horses. LEGAPHYTON contains beside others the pharmacological most potent ingredient of the milk thistle, silybin in a highly digestible form linked to phospholipids combined with easy digestible carbohydrates (Lucerne, Carob) to support recovery and relieve the liver metabolism. LEGAPHYTON is particularly recommended for horses suffering from chronic liver insufficiency (horses under intense training, overfed horses, and senior horses).

Silybin as a single substance has the advantage compared to the extensive composition of milk thistle (including secondary plant compounds, flavonoids, saponins) that it has been proven to have the most effective positive effect on the cell wall integrity of liver cells without further burdening the already damaged liver cells with unnecessary substances. The provision of highly digestible carbohydrates also protects the liver from exposure to protein degradation and supports the compensation of nutrient imbalances.

ADMINISTRATION

Adult horses (500 kg): 30g / day
Foals/ponies: 15g / day

To be mixed with feed which should be divided into several small meals per day. Advised period of feeding is for an initial period up to 6 months. It is recommended that a veterinarian‘s opinion be sought before use or before extending the period of Use.

CAUTION

Should not be given during pregnancy as Silymarin has structural similarity with estrogen and has therefore the ability to bind on estrogen receptors including modulating its effects on the target tissue (abortion in pregnant). Furthermore, it is published that Silymarin can stimulate the secretion of FSH.
